Surcharge in Tanzania
Starting from October 1, 2024, all foreign nationals — including citizens of India — are required to purchase travel insurance issued by Zanzibar Insurance Corporation in order to enter Zanzibar.
This insurance covers emergency medical expenses, accidents, baggage delays, theft, legal expenses, repatriation, and more for stays up to 92 days.
This requirement applies to all travelers, regardless of any existing health or travel insurance they may already have.
The insurance must be purchased online via the official portal: https://visitzanzibar.go.tz/. Payment is accepted only via an international bank card (Indian cards with international payment capability are accepted).
Insurance cost:
- Adult – USD 44
- Child under 17.99 years – USD 22
- Infant under 1.99 years – Free
Anex Tour offers assistance with the insurance process for USD 60 per adult and USD 38 per child.
This service can be requested through the booking department.
Failure to comply may result in denial of entry at immigration checkpoints.

The insurance does not cover the following:
- Self-inflicted injuries or suicide
- War-related incidents
- Pollution or natural disasters
- Riots, terrorism, or coups
- Elective surgeries
- Participation in fights (except in self-defense)

- Alcohol-related incidents
- Routine medical check-ups
- Pre-existing medical conditions
- Violation of safety regulations
