When to Go?
The weather in Ammoudara allows you to enjoy beach holidays from mid-May to the end of October. The air and water temperatures peak in July and August, at +27 °C and +25 °C, respectively. Even then, the heat is not too oppressive due to the island’s breezes.
You can also visit Ammoudara during other times of the year if your goal is sightseeing, wine tasting, or sea cruises.
Ammoudara Beaches
The resort has several sandy beaches, mostly municipal, though some belong to hotels. The entry into the sea is gentle. Waves are common due to the wind, but an underwater ridge located 30 m from the shore helps to break them. The rocks lie close to the surface and are home to sea urchins, so caution is advised while swimming.
The beaches offer everything you need—umbrellas, loungers, showers, bars, taverns, and play areas. Windsurfing is the most popular water sport here.

Where to Go
From Ammoudara hotels, you can visit the legendary Knossos Palace, steeped in myth. Its unique structure resembles a labyrinth, which inspired the myth of the Minotaur. To immerse yourself in the ancient atmosphere, the Minoan Theme Center regularly hosts dinners featuring traditional dishes and performances about mythological heroes of the Minoan era.
For a sea adventure, consider a boat trip to Santorini—Greece’s most famous and romantic island. Everything here captivates the imagination: beaches with black volcanic sand, white houses with blue doors and rooftops. Honeymooners, couples, and romantics flock here to witness the most stunning sunset.
From Ammoudara, you can also visit Gramvousa—an island where you can see the meeting point of three seas: the Libyan, Ionian, and Cretan. The island is also famous for the ruins of a Byzantine fortress that once harbored pirates, and the Balos Lagoon, chosen by Princess Diana and Prince Charles for their honeymoon.
