Kallithea is a resort village on the shore of the Aegean Sea, located on the Halkidiki Peninsula, 90 km from Thessaloniki. Visitors come not only for the sea — Kallithea is also a great place for walks and eco-tourism. The main visitors are families, young people, and independent travelers.
The village is located on a hill, so you have to go down a steep staircase to reach the sea. This feature should be considered when choosing Kallithea as a vacation destination. The weather in Kallithea, Halkidiki, is ideal for beach holidays from May to October and for sightseeing year-round.
Kallithea Beach
Most beaches are located outside the village. They are all sandy, with convenient access to the sea. Many are Blue Flag certified for cleanliness. The sea water is turquoise and always calm.
Within the village, most beaches belong to hotels. Some offer excellent sun loungers with mattresses, umbrellas, restrooms, and showers, but lack the usual water activities. There are no jet skis, boats, or banana rides here, as they negatively impact the local environment. However, you can fully enjoy the nature and sea, as palm trees and pine forests come right up to the sand. Outside the village, beaches do offer entertainment.
Entertainment in Kallithea, Greece
Kallithea does not have many sights, but there are plenty of places for active recreation that attract young people. Among the nightclubs, Ahoy is worth visiting — the largest in the area. It is located outside the village, as the resort itself promotes a more tranquil and upscale vacation with restaurant dining, café visits, walks, etc.
Tourists can also enjoy horseback riding, bowling, and go-karting.
When visiting local cafés, keep in mind that they open after 12:00 and stay open late into the night.
What to see?
From the hotels in Kallithea, you can book an excursion or explore the surroundings on your own — visit the Church of St. Panteleimon and the ruins of the temples of Dionysus and Ammon Zeus. You can also go to Afytos and visit the ethnographic museum, which showcases the history of Halkidiki.
Excursions
Since the peninsula is large, excursions from Kallithea hotels may take a few hours, but the stunning landscapes outside the window make the ride enjoyable.
The Petralona Cave is a must-see — the oldest known human settlement in Europe. This place is known for its underground lakes, stone labyrinths, and stalagmites.
In Nea Moudania, the Fisheries Museum houses a vast collection of fishing gear and exhibits detailing different fishing methods.
The Mount Athos Peninsula is famous for its abundance of monasteries, most of which are closed to women. However, women can visit Zygou or admire the monasteries during a boat tour.
Tourists often choose to visit the legendary Mount Olympus and the towering Meteora cliffs with monasteries atop them. Meteora leaves a lasting impression, especially in cloudy weather when the peaks are shrouded in mist. On clear days, the view from above is magical and breathtaking.
Families with children can head to Waterland or Magic Park, located just a couple of hours from Kallithea.
